SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. The standard describes how an e-learning course is packaged as a zip file, and how the course tells the platform whether the user has completed it and what score they got.
SCORM became widespread because courses built in one authoring tool could be used in many LMSs. It has its limits, though. It only tracks what happens inside the course, and it was built for desktop and a stable connection.
If you have many existing SCORM courses, ask about them when choosing a platform. If you are building new content, it may be easier to create the courses directly in the platform.
