How to build a course with AI
Use AI for drafts, structure, and quiz questions, and finish the course in Skill Designer. A practical approach in five steps.
AI cannot take over your learning, but it can remove the heavy lifting: the draft, the structure, and the quiz questions. Here is an approach in five steps that works in practice.
1. Give the AI your own material
A good course builds on your own processes, not on generic knowledge. Give the AI the material you already have: a procedure, a presentation, meeting notes. Tell it the audience, the purpose, and the time the course may take. The more concrete, the better the draft.
2. Ask for the structure in four pages
Most courses only need four pages: an intro page, an introduction with text and media, a quiz, and a certificate. Ask the AI to deliver the draft in exactly that structure. Then it is ready to drop into Skill Designer instead of needing to be cut up afterward.
3. Reuse your presentation
If you already have a presentation, give it to the AI together with your other material. Ask it to turn the slides into course pages, and let it write the explanatory text the slides never included.
4. Let the AI write the quiz questions
Ask for three questions about the work, not about remembering the text. A good question starts in a situation: “A customer calls and … what do you do?” The AI is strong at varying questions, but you must approve the correct answers yourself.
5. Test, adjust, and assign
The AI's draft is a draft. Let a colleague take the course first, fix what is unclear, and then assign it to one group before rolling out broadly. Progress quickly shows whether the course works.
Next step: the AI builds directly in the platform
You can connect AI services such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot to Skillflow through MCP. The AI can then create the course and the quiz questions directly in the platform, translate it, and add read-aloud audio. It works only inside your company and with the user's own permissions.
