AI Act

The AI Act is the EU regulation on artificial intelligence. It sets rules based on risk and requires companies to train employees who use AI.

The AI Act is the EU regulation on artificial intelligence (Regulation 2024/1689). It entered into force on 1 August 2024 and takes effect in stages until 2027. It applies to companies that develop or use AI, in every EU country.

The rules follow the risk of the AI system. A few uses are banned. High risk systems, for example AI used in hiring, must meet strict requirements for documentation, data, and human oversight. Everyday tools such as chat assistants carry lighter duties, mainly transparency.

One duty applies to almost every company: since 2 February 2025, article 4 requires that employees who work with AI have sufficient AI literacy. The training must fit their role and how the company uses AI.

A practical way to start is to map where AI is used, decide what each role needs to know, and give employees short, role based training. Document the training, so the company can show it meets the duty.
